David Gonzalez is a construction worker and home remodeler. He was fixing up his newest acquisition and found an issue of Action Comics #1 (Superman’s first appearance) inside a wall.

Considering he bought the house for 10,000, he’s going to make a pretty decent profit on it once the comic sells at auction.

There is one small downside. Apparently, when he went to show the comic to his aunt, they got into a tiff and the comic ended up with a tear on the back page. According to the Star Tribune:

“I am a humble working guy, so I didn’t get too excited when I found it with old newspapers stuffed in the walls,” said Gonzalez, a father of four. “Money won’t buy you happiness.”

His in-laws didn’t have the same reaction.

“They got all excited and tried to take it,” he said. “I understand it’s something cool, but told them: ‘You don’t have to act so rude. I brought you in to show you, don’t grab it.’?”

It’s not the end of the world. The comic is currently going for a bid of 137,000. He bought the home for $10,100 and the comic is worth well over $100,000. But that one tear changed the quality from a 3.0 to a 1.5.

According to Stephen Fishler, co-owner of ComicConnect, “That was a $75,000 tear.”

Ouch.
